Mystery Banana Update

Well, the shooting suckers have been growing so well that it made me wonder what else was happening.  I noticed a big lesion about one third of the way down the corm when I first planted it.  I predicted that it was a node that would produce a sucker.  I dug down to find it.The node/lesion has plumped up.  I still don't have definitive evidence that it will produce a sucker.

I also noticed when planting the corm that one side of it was black and hard.  When I uprooted the corm a week ago, I observed roots growing all around the corm but the black spot had nothing growing from it.  Well today I cut off the black crust to expose the cream flesh beneath.  Even so, that side of the corm is very hard, almost woody.  It was amazing to smell the banana scent as I carved my way through the corm.

Mother Plant

I was bored with a touch of insomnia, so I decided to check on Mother Plant.  There are no new developments, only some pretty pictures.

Regina Sucker Progress

I checked on Regina's sucker progress.  I didn't really see much change between today and a few days ago.

Mystery Banana Update

The Mystery Banana corm has made progress since yesterday.  The apex of the shoot has cracked open, and a leaf or something is pushing through.

Dwarf Namwa Settles In

I have had my Dwarf Namwa for over a week now.  She has settled in and is producing her first new leaf in her new home.

Mystery Banana Update

Yesterday when I photographed the larger shooting sucker, it looked like one solid reddish/pinkish mass.  Today I can see a red growth protruding from a pink sheaf.  These sheafs were not distinct yesterday.

Mystery Banana Update

I checked on Mystery Banana Corm.  I noticed that the shooting suckers had not emerged much more, but they were pumping up.  They seemed to be imprisoned by some sort of casing, so I cut away as much of the casing as I dared.  Hope I didn't harm anything.  I can only imagine what is occurring beneath the soil.

Mother Plant Finally Unfurls

Mother Plant has been growing the same leaf for a month now, but the leaf has finally emerged.  It's funny, there was no visible movement for the longest time, and suddenly she started growing.  Within a few days she popped the leaf out.  Of course there is another leaf following.  Let's see how long she takes to produce this one.

Regina the Reluctant

I've been kind of wondering when Regina would produce pups.  She's about 8 months old now, and it's about that time.  I did a little digging to see if I could find evidence of a future pup.  This node makes me think she will pup soon.

Mystery Banana Update

I exposed two buds growing from Mystery Banana's corm.  My excuse is that the plant will use less energy breaking through the soil.  In reality, I just have to know what's going on.  It's hard to see through soil.

I asked my neighbour, the former owner of the corm, what type of banana it is.  She didn't know, but she says it produces small bananas.

Bella

Bella is still progressing.

Pippy is Growing

Pippy the peeper is finally growing.  It seems silly to report on something so mundane, but Pippy has not grown even 1 cm in the past 6 months.  If you look at the center of the plant, you can see a tiny leaf starting to push upwards.
