The large red sucker continues to plump up. I cannot detect any change in the small red sucker. The white shoot is growing rapidly. I have another conjecture about this shoot. Since the plant was chopped up at it grow point, perhaps the mother plant has established a new grow point from her side. The shoot is hooking upwards, so I believe she's trying to break through the soil.
Since I've been looking beneath the soil, I decided to try and find the point of junction between Princess and Pippy. I dug down about 2", but due to an abundance of cord roots, I couldn't dig any further. Pippy is quite deeply situated, so I better leave her as the follower and remove the other peepers. I saw evidence of 3 additional peepers.
I was a bit bored, so I decided to see what was going on beneath the soil of Regina. I found lots of healthy-looking cord roots and a peeper trying to peep. It appears that when suckers form a large, pimple-like nodule forms. It later breaks open when the sucker emerges. The busted nodule forms a ring at the junction of the mother corm and the sucker.
I think this shoot, which I thought was a sucker, is actually the corm extending itself. The shooting of the corm is what produces a banana mat. Hopefully, when the corm is through situating itself, it will produce a healthy, vigorous plant.
The shoots are plumping up, especially the larger one. The leaf/petiole of the large sucker is pushing out.
Well, the shooting suckers have been growing so well that it made me wonder what else was happening. I noticed a big lesion about one third of the way down the corm when I first planted it. I predicted that it was a node that would produce a sucker. I dug down to find it.The node/lesion has plumped up. I still don't have definitive evidence that it will produce a sucker.
I also noticed when planting the corm that one side of it was black and hard. When I uprooted the corm a week ago, I observed roots growing all around the corm but the black spot had nothing growing from it. Well today I cut off the black crust to expose the cream flesh beneath. Even so, that side of the corm is very hard, almost woody. It was amazing to smell the banana scent as I carved my way through the corm.
I was bored with a touch of insomnia, so I decided to check on Mother Plant. There are no new developments, only some pretty pictures.
I checked on Regina's sucker progress. I didn't really see much change between today and a few days ago.
The Mystery Banana corm has made progress since yesterday. The apex of the shoot has cracked open, and a leaf or something is pushing through.
